Encroachment

Colour is a pest. It shines out of empty spaces without making them negative. It tints shapes with emotion thus masking lines and complicating gradations. Sometimes it carries a meaning, but most of the time it is a distraction, which has to be fought tooth and nail to reveal the subject. If there is a subject. Fortunately we can filter first and monochromise second. And in doing so we get to decide what the shot is about. This one:

is about the encroachment of a cloud on the town below. Three protuberances are advancing, but the azure… same stupid featureless backdrop. Down with it.

July is coming. The blues won’t last. The gamut is changing…
